Royston Town Trail

St. John the Baptist Church

The trail map

Discover Royston’s fascinating past on this guided walk around Royston town centre.

Starting at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, 31 town trail markers guide you around the town, taking in such points as: Dead Street – so-named because of the number of people living there who died from the Plague; the small, square key cupboard used for the coachmen to open the coaching inn gates late at night; and the building where King James I reportedly signed the death warrant of Sir Walter Raleigh.

The printed guide can be picked up from the Royston Information Centre or viewed online.
